Esopus Spitzenburg Cider Juice

Thomas Jefferson's Favourite Apple, Pressed and Ready

Esopus Spitzenburg has one of the most distinguished pedigrees in American pomology. Originating in New York's Hudson Valley in the 1700s and famously the favourite apple of Thomas Jefferson, it produces a juice that is bright, aromatic, and unmistakably complex. Lively acidity, a spicy-sweet character, and just enough tannin to give it structure — it makes a cider of real elegance that stands apart from anything a modern variety can offer.

Pressed at The Orchard Point Prim and immediately quick frozen in 10L aseptic tetra-bags, every bag captures the variety at its peak. Our test batches confirm the juice can be used up to 12 months after its press date with no degradation in flavour — ferment it now or hold it until your next batch is ready.

  • Classification: Sharp
  • Flavour profile: Spicy-sweet, aromatic, bright acidity, light tannin, and a crisp, refreshing finish
  • Best for: Single-varietal ciders, aromatic blends, off-dry and semi-dry styles
  • Tannin: Low-medium | Acidity: High | Sugar: Medium-high
  • Format: 10L aseptic tetra-bag, quick frozen

We always recommend a cider-specific yeast and yeast nutrient when fermenting. A historic variety with a flavour profile unlike anything else — in every bag.
