Grafting Scions
Apple trees are not grown from seeds. If you do plant an apple seed, the new tree will produce a different apple than the one you got the seed from. This because apple trees need two or more sets of genetic code for fertilization. That’s why we use scions for grafting, to “clone” the trees. These “sticks” are cut from the first year growth of an apple tree while it is dormant. In the spring, we graft it onto a rootstock and let it heal before planting. We always have more scions than we need for our own use, so we have a good inventory each spring for sale.

Varieties Still Available for Spring 2025
We still have some cider tree scions available for 2025 grafting. We begin harvesting early March and begin shipping April – early May. The cost for each 12″ scion, which should be able to graft 3 trees with confidence, is $4.00 CAD plus shipping + HST. If you are interested in purchasing some of our scions for grafting your own trees, please Contact Us to find out what is available.
